Lyons Vénissieux heating and cooling network

Lower heating costs for customers and use of renewable energy

The Dalkia solution

The division's main emphasis is on a strategy of sustainable development for the network and on switching from a public service to a "service for the public."

  • Better network reliability: in addition to the current installations, a 20 MW wood-burning boiler plant will be put into service in October 2006 in the 8th arrondissement of Lyons, in addition to a 30 MW cogeneration facility in Villeurbanne.
  • Lower costs to customers: the new production facilities will employ the least expensive energy sources and increase heating sales by 50% and cooling sales by 37%. This will result in an average 30% reduction in the MWh cost to subscribers.
  • Compliance with environmental regulations: two-thirds of the energy used will be renewable or end-energy, including energy from wood and heat from waste. This would make the network eligible for classification in 2007 if the municipality is interested.
  • Extensive communications program directed at local organizations and subscribers.
